Column: Mayor addresses mail delivery, enacting codes and policies and more

Greetings, Tusayan and Grand Canyon residents, After my last article I had a Tusayan resident ask me if there was a way the town could help with getting home delivery of mail and packages. I explained that the home delivery is a question for the U.S. Postal Service as they are the ones who make the decision about delivering mail. I will follow up with them and see what the chances are in the future to get delivery, but I'm doubtful due to the cost. Regarding packages, I went to Flagstaff and spoke with the station managers for both UPS and Fed-Ex to see what could be done to provide home delivery of packages. Both entities said they do and will continue to deliver if they have a correct address that they can find. I shared with them that the county had re-addressed all of our streets and buildings a number of years ago with the support of the fire district. I offered to send them a copy of the addressing electronically so they could update their system. They both stressed that the addresses must be clearly marked on the building so the drivers can identify the right home. They also asked that residents remember if a signature is required that they will be unable to just drop off the package, but would leave a notice of attempted delivery and how the resident should go about getting their package. They will not be able to drop them off in the Park at the Xanterra warehouse, but instead will take them back to Flagstaff and hold them there. They also asked that we remember that if the package cannot be protected from the elements they will not leave it either.

Letter: Halvorson proposes housing program

Dear citizens of Tusayan: Some of you know me personally, but most of you have only heard of me or seen me occasionally probably serving salmon at the traditional Halvorson barbecue. It is a rare occasion that I write a letter to you, the community, but at this time I see the most hopeful opportunities for the future of Tusayan and its residents that I have e ever see n in the 50 years I have been involved n Tusayan. With that future in reach, I want to share my thoughts.
