Grand Canyon News

TUSAYAN, Ariz. - Voters in the Tusayan area will cast their votes next Tuesday for the Aug. 24 Tusayan Town Council primary election. The vote will pick five candidates out of nine that are running for the available seats. Tuesday's election will mark the first official election for the newly incorporated Tusayan community.

Nine individuals are hoping for seats on the Tusayan Town Council. Those individuals are Clarinda Vail, Ann Wren, Greg Bryan, Al Montoya, Cecily Maniaci, Pete Shearer, Bob Blasi, Bill Fitzgerald, and John Reuter. Vail, Wren, Montoya, Bryan and Shearer currently serve on the council. Shearer was appointed mayor by the interim council members.

While the primary election will be held Tuesday, a general election is slated for Nov. 2. Any of the candidates who do not receive over 50 percent of the vote Aug. 24 will head to the general election in November.

Voting for the primary election will be held at the Grand Hotel Aug. 24 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the Coconino County Elections Department.

For more information on registering and more, visit the elections department online at www.coconino.az.gov/elections.
