Longtime residents can already feel the difference in the air now that summer is in full swing. That difference has to do with the humidity, the rising temperatures and more; indicating that it is only a matter of time before the summer monsoon storms once again return to northern Arizona.

Editorial: Labor Day marks the season's end
When most think of Labor Day in the Williams/Grand Canyon area, they think of one thing: the end of the summer tourist season. The end of August and the beginning of September, for business owners in the Northland, typically heralds the last weekend where the shops, restaurants and sidewalks are filled with shoppers from all areas of the globe.

Letter: Salazar should extend mining moritorium
To the editor:

The Colorado River is the lifeblood of the Southwest, supporting our sporting and tourism economy, and supplying water for millions. That's why we support Interior Secretary Ken Salazar's temporary moratorium on new uranium mining, which protects the river and the Grand Canyon.

Editorial: Lots going on in August around the Canyon
Life at the Grand Canyon is always busy. In August, in particular, there is plenty going on for both locals and visitors to the area. Two items, featured in this week's Grand Canyon News, include efforts to bring virtual field trips to students across the country and information about the upcoming Thunder Over the Coconino event at the Valle airport.

Editorial: Newspapers need community involvement
There are always moments when it would be nice to have a camera handy. Times when the perfect photo opportunity presents itself, such as a graduation, a special birthday, or when a giant elk crosses onto the center of Highway 64 in the heart of Tusayan, stopping traffic as it makes its way through the heart of the newly incorporated South Rim community (and presenting a perfect photo opportunity)

Editorial: Take care of campsites this summer
It's not uncommon for thoughts to turn to the great outdoors during the warm summer months. For many of us, this is the time when the cool pines of northern Arizona beckon to us. For many, grabbing that tent and hiking stick is the first order of business when the weekend rolls around.

Historical aircraft will take to the skies this Saturday during the annual High Country Warbirds Fly-in in Valle and, for fans of history and aviation, there is nothing else in the world quite like it. Letter: Unhappy with Kiel coverage
Page 8, indeed? While I found your article on our seasonal turbidity occurrence and the potential for wider parking spaces in downtown Williams riveting and breaking news, I found your page 8 send off to Don Keil disappointing.

Editorial: History told through GC museum collection
When it comes to the Grand Canyon National Park, part of the allure of the place comes in the form of its history, the myriad stories of those who came here centuries ago, or even 50 years ago, at a time when the experience was a little different than it is now.

To the editor:

Your letter policy states that you give all readers a chance to comment on issues of public interest. I'm aware of meetings regarding the uranium mining issue and that the mining community has been represented at these meetings and has even had very qualified speakers give the mining industry's story.
