Tusayan Mayor

Greetings Tusayan and Grand Canyon area residents:

As we look at this last week's weather, it's just another reason we are happy to be in the West rather than the East Coast. We can deal with a few inches rather than several feet of snow. Thanks to Arizona Department of Transportation and our town team in keeping our roads and sidewalks so clear. We will get to the dirt on the sidewalks soon.

A special note of appreciation goes out to Councilman John Rueter, with some help from the Sanitary District, for creating a storage trailer for the community Christmas decorations. We were waiting to take them down until the trailer was done and only have to handle them once. Last week, former Mayor Pete Shearer, Vice-Mayor Al Montoya and school board member and Arizona Public Service "go-to" guy - Kevin Hartigan - took the decorations down in very short order and will be safely stored until next year. Another community project done together through our volunteers.

Last week, the town council supported the Tusayan Fire District's need for an aerial fire truck and will work with them to buy it. The council continues look for ways it can assist the district in their awesome efforts to protect and serve our community in many ways. The council also listened to a presentation by the Stilo representative, Tom DePaolo, about where they are in the process of their project. The council has some concerns about timelines and forward movement and is working to address several issues with the developer. Stilo did report that they have sold and/or leased several units at Camper Village and are interested in talking with anyone who has an interest in securing a unit.

New Coconino County Board of Supervisor member Art Babbott gave a presentation on his experience with housing authorities and expressed his desire to listen and work with the Tusayan community as our supervisor on the board. He committed to hold regular meetings here in Tusayan to stay connected. We very much appreciate his representing our community at the county level and look forward to working with him.

The Tusayan General Plan continues to move forward with stakeholder interviews. There is a town hall meeting planned for Wednesday evening Feb. 27 to gather community input on general ideas and visions for the plan. It is important that the community come out and share their vision with the team working on the General Plan. It is intended to be the community's plan so share your thoughts with us.

Tonight, we will have the pleasure to be part of recognizing our Grand Canyon Airport as an important part of the Arizona Tourism Industry. The Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association will be recognizing our airport as an honoree as part of their statewide Tourism Unity Dinner celebration. We are proud of the role our airport plays in making tourism such an integral part of not only our community, but also the state as whole.

The council's next meeting will be Feb. 20, please come out and be a part of building your town.

Respectfully,

Greg Bryan

Mayor

The paper needs to stop supporting the Guest Columns by the Mayor. Too much of it is pure propaganda.

Mr Mayor regarding the Stilo development and its "slow" progress - you might want to consider (both as Mayor and a Halvorsen representative) suggesting the the leadership of the Stilo program could be "improved". Before it goes completely off the rails
