WHS spikers open practice Aug.16

The Williams High School volleyball team will begin practice Aug. 16 at the WHS gymnasium, Coach Ken Edes announced.

Practices will run approximately 90 minutes. Edes said the team will practice from Aug. 16 through Aug. 25 at 3:30 p.m., and thereafter at 3:45 p.m. after classes dismiss.

The Lady Vikings will open the season Aug. 30 with a home matchup against Holbrook. The varsity will play at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity girls hitting the court first at 4 p.m.

The team plays at home again on Sept. 5 vs. Camp Verde before hitting the road for a Sept. 9 invitational at Joseph City.

Laughlin-Nev. (Sept. 15), Seligman (Sept. 16 and Sept. 21), Grand Canyon (Sept. 30) and Joseph City (Oct. 4) round out the nonconference schedule.

Canyon Region action begins Sept. 29 with a date at Mogollon. Other conference matches will be Oct. 6 at home vs. Orme, Oct. 10 at Mayer, Oct. 12 at home vs. Sedona Red Rock and Oct. 17 at Salome.

This year’s regional volleyball playoffs will begin Oct. 21 at a site to be announced.

Meanwhile, the boys are scheduled to begin football practice today. The Viking gridders will open the season Sept. 1 at Tuba City. Williams will play a home scrimmage vs. Joseph City on Aug. 25.
