The Cards had been beaten by the Devil Rays earlier in the season as they were held to one hit and struck out 16 times. This time around, Grand Canyon hit the ball much better to take an 18-3 win.

“That was the big difference this time,” Cards coach Ken Hunter said. “We had a lot of hits.”

Grand Canyon didn’t waste any time scoring runs with seven on the scoreboard in the first inning. In fact the Cards sent 10 batters to the plate in the first.

The Cards added two in the second and nine more in the third. The game ended on the mercy rule after five innings.

David Robinson and Chris Streit each went 3-for-4 for Grand Canyon. Robinson also had two RBI and two stolen bases while Streit had three RBI, two stolen bases, a double and an inside-the-park home run.

Ryne Boone and Eddie Tobin also had good games at the plate with 2-for-4 performances. Tobin had two doubles and three RBI.

Streit and Tobin combined at pitcher. Streit had seven strikeouts in three innings. Tobin relieved in the fourth and struck out three in his two innings of work.

Grand Canyon went up against the Williams Astros Saturday afternoon and posted a 14-5 win.

With the game tied 1-1, Grand Canyon came up with four runs in the bottom of the third. In that inning, all four runs were on Cardinal players stealing home.

The Cards broke open the game in the bottom of the fifth with six runs.

Jesse Hunter led hitters with a 3-for-4 effort, along with three stolen bases. Scott Olsen went 2-for-2 with a triple and RBI. Streit was 2-for-4 with a triple. Tyler Ottosen had a hit and sacrifice fly.

Hunter, Tobin and Streit all saw action at pitcher. Hunter fanned seven in three innings, Tobin struck out five and two innings and Streit came to relieve in the sixth.

Coach Hunter thanked the efforts of Kathy Ottosen who helped with the cook shack at Williams Saturday and also Cynthia Olsen and Suzette Streit for their work on a banner for the Cardinals.
