Desert View gets<br>good cleaning
DESERT VIEW — Grand Canyon concessioners and the National Park Service cooperated on a cleanup effort of the Desert View area late last month.
Desert View volunteers clean up trash along the South Rim last week in an effort to beautify the area.
Employees from Amfac Trading Post, Desert View Market, Grand Canyon Association and the Watchtower took to the trails, forest and overlooks to pick up various types of litter that had collected on the ground. Delaware North’s Tom Sargent and Amfac’s Angie Ancheta put their heads together to organize the event.
Sargent said it was the group’s goal to pick up 50 bags of litter. Besides the satisfaction of cleaning up one of the most beautiful places on Earth, volunteers had an extra incentive to participate. Desert View Market gave away free coffee mugs and T-shirts while Amfac Trading Post awarded free meals at its snack bar for volunteers turning in full bags of trash.
The project was part of Delaware North’s commitment to the Green Path organization, whose goal is to cleanup and maintain a pristine environment in national parks. Recycling, the use of environmentally-friendly cleaning products and educating others on how to keep national parks clean are methods used to help the program reach their goals.
