During the period of June 8-15, U.S. Park Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park responded to the following incidents:

Friday, June 8

o An emergency medical call was taken from the inner canyon (site not reported) of a 36-year-old man suspected to be suffering from hyponatremia. The patient was flown out and transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

Saturday, June 9

o Rangers assisted Peregrine Fund officials with California condors on Lookout Studio.

o Two Grand Canyon men, ages 40 and 35, were given a verbal warning for their actions in the woods off Zuni Way. Rangers stated the men were intoxicated and scaring visitors by imitating bears in the woods. Rangers asked the men to return to their rooms and "sleep it off."

o A 24-year-old woman was given a verbal warning for disorderly conduct and trespassing for attempting to start an argument with a Maswik Lodge employee. The woman was banned from the lodge.

o A man (name withheld-no age reported, no city of residence reported) was cited for unsafe vehicle operation and no proof of insurance after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into numerous trees and stopped in the woods between Victor Hall and the road to Maswik Lodge.

o Rangers took a report from guests at the El Tovar Hotel of a missing purse with numerous items inside.

o Devaniel Charles, 32, and Ace Charles, 18, (city of residences not reported) were arrested after an altercation in the village residential area. Ace Charles was charged with disorderly conduct and under the influence of alcohol while Devaniel Charles was arrested on a felony warrant out of Lake Havasu City. They were both transported to jail in Flagstaff.

o Rocinta Attson, 23, Grand Canyon, was arrested for trespassing, vandalism and under the influence of alcohol after being found asleep in a Victor Hall room. She was transported to jail in Flagstaff.

Sunday, June 10

o An emergency medical call was taken of a visitor (age, sex not reported) who tripped and fell at Hopi Point. The patient was transported to his/her vehicle.

o Rangers took a report of malicious mischief from the fire base, which reported that an unknown person or persons are dumping out water from the fire water cache pumpkin.

Monday, June 11

o A 37-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, both of Grand Canyon, were issued verbal warnings for disorderly conduct/fighting after a domestic incident. The woman was transported to her residence.

o Rangers responded to a minor motor-vehicle accident at Bright Angel Lodge. There was damage only, no injuries.

o Rangers responded to a report of two transients harassing visitors near Yavapai Lodge. The subjects were gone upon arrival.

o A medical evacuation planned for this morning was cancelled after a river expedition leader reported a patron was feeling better. The previous night, Western River Expeditions had requested a medical evacuation, but there was not a safe landing zone at their camp, thus it was postponed and later, cancelled.

o An emergency medical call was taken at the first tunnel on the Bright Angel Trail of a 40-year-old woman from Pakistan who had fainted. The woman was found by a Preventative Search and Rescue ranger. After additional personnel responded from the rim, the woman was assessed and hiked out with assistance. The patient refused transportation and care against medical advice.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Tapeats Creek, River Mile 133, of a 62-year-old Maryland woman who was suffering from dehydration and hyponatremia. The patient and her 75-year-old sister were flown to the South Rim and transferred to Flagstaff Medical Center via Guardian.

Tuesday, June 12

o A 48-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man, both of Grand Canyon, were issued verbal warnings for disorderly conduct/fighting after a domestic incident. The man, who was hit with a broom, did not wish to press charges.

o A 36-year-old Grand Canyon woman was issued a verbal warning for noise after rangers were called to a Colter Hall room.

o Rangers responded to a report of a woman not breathing at a Trailer Village apartment. The victim was non-responsive. The investigation was to continue with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office.

o An emergency medical call was taken at North Canyon, River Mile 20, of a 13-year-old boy who had fallen 60 feet (public affairs office reported 40 feet) while hiking in a side canyon. Paramedic rangers were not able to revive the boy. The victim and his relative were flown to the South Rim helibase.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Phantom Ranch of a 52-year-old woman suffering from hyponatremia. The patient was flown to the South Rim.

Wednesday, June 13

o Rangers took a report from a resident on Straight Street of a rear vehicle window being broken out. There was a dent in the trunk of the vehicle, possibly caused from a BB.

o Rangers contacted two transients who were panhandling in front of Yavapai Lodge.

o An emergency medical call was taken of a visitor (age, sex not reported) who tripped and fell off a park shuttle bus at Yavapai Lodge. The patient refused treatment.

o Eric Bradley, 21, Grand Canyon, was cited for interference and under the influence of alcohol after rangers responded to a fight at Colter Hall. Lorenzo Shirley, 23, Grand Canyon, was cited for under the influence of alcohol.

o Joshua Mathie, 32, Grand Canyon, was cited for under the influence of alcohol after he refused to leave a loud party at Victor Annex.

o A woman (name withheld, age not reported) was cited for an equipment violation after being found at Mather Point. No other information provided.

Thursday, June 14

o Rangers issued a verbal warning to a Nevada Charters bus driver after she allegedly raised her voice while approaching a Paul Revere Transportation driver at the Yavapai Museum bus stop. The dispute was over parking in the shuttle bus area.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Bright Angel Lodge of an 83-year-old woman who tripped and fell and became hypertensive. The woman was transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

o Houston Pons, 20, Grand Canyon, was cited for minor consumption of alcohol at Victor Hall. Pons told rangers he drank only one beer, but a blood test revealed an alcohol-content of .119.

o Rangers took a report of assault at Victor Hall. A resident was attacked behind Victor Hall by two unidentified males. The victim suffered a laceration to the face.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Nautaloid Canyon, River Mile 35, of a 27-year-old woman with a possible broken leg. The woman had fallen the previous afternoon and flagged down a Western River trip to use their satellite phone to call for help this morning. The patient was flown to the South Rim and transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

Friday, June 15

o Rangers assisted Verkamp’s staff with the removal of a bird in the store.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Cottonwood of a 20-year-old woman who injured her ankle while hiking on Thursday. After evaluation, the woman refused further care. The woman then called on emergency phone Friday morning requesting a medical evacuation. The patient was flown out transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.
