Falcon spikers take<br>7-1 record into tourney

The Williams Middle School volleyball team will take a 7-1 record into this week’s I-40 Conference Tournament at Ash Fork.

The Falcons tuned up for the season-ending event with a trip to Grand Canyon on Saturday. Williams’ A team lost its first match of the season with Ash Fork taking a 14-16, 18-16, 15-11 victory. In the team’s second match, Williams downed Grand Canyon, 15-11, 15-6.

In the loss, Williams coach Connie Stevens said the team struggled with serving. The team did better against the Phantoms and even rallied from a 10-5 deficit in the first game. Chesney Grantham served for eight of the team’s points in the first game and six in the second game vs. Grand Canyon.

In B-team action, Williams ended the season with a 6-3 record after a victory over Grand Canyon, 15-10, 15-6, and a loss to Seligman, 15-10, 15-11.

In the victory over the Phantoms, Shauni Tanori served for eight points while Delia Madrid served for seven to lead the team in that department.
