Candidate count <br>now stalled at four

As reported last week, four candidates are circulating nominating petitions for seats on Williams City Council in the 2001 election — three incumbents and a newcomer.

But two of these are vying for the position of mayor. Since three council seats are up for re-election, that leaves one more seat than candidates with the deadline for entering the race looming.

Anyone running has until 5 p.m. Dec. 12 to make candidacy official by turning in petitions at city hall. Prospective candidates are required to circulate nonpartisan nominating petitions to eligible voters living in Williams.

Ken Edes, current mayor, is seeking re-election. Mike Morgan, owner of Williams Executive Center and Main Street president, is also seeking the office of mayor. In Williams, the office of mayor is a two-year term.

Cary Price and Dale Perkins, whose current seats on city council expire in June, are both seeking re-election. City councilmembers serve four-year terms.

The election can be decided at the March 12 primary providing a candidate receives a majority of the number of votes cast that day. In the event the primary doesn’t decide who wins office, a general run-off election will be held May 21.

City manager quest enters finalist stage

Williams City Council has picked five finalists for the position of city manager and will interview them on Thursday, Friday and Monday. This position has been open since Aug. 31.
