Mountain Village Holiday set for Dec. 7

The Williams Viking Rockettes keep time during the last year’s Parade of Lights in downtown Williams.

“Last year we had six classes participate,” said Chamber Volunteer Joan Larimore, “and this year we’ve heard from 19 classes that want to decorate trees.”

Most of the fun will happen Dec. 7.

A craft fair at The Shed, the city’s skate park, is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 7. Homemade and handmade craft items, as well as edible goodies and entertainment will be featured.

The annual tree-lighting ceremony will be at 6 p.m. at Monument Park. Williams Mayor Ken Edes will officiate.

The Parade of Lights will run along Route 66 beginning at 7 p.m. The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce has received about 10 entries so far, mainly from the Flagstaff area, said Diana Croteau, of the Chamber of Commerce.

Organizers hope to attract at least 60 entries by the Nov. 29 deadline.

Applications are available at the Williams Visitor Center at 200 W. Railroad Ave. For more information, contact Diana Croteau at 635-1418.

The Chambers’ board of directors, as well as chamber employees will be this year’s grand marshalls.

A judging stand will be located in front of Cruiser’s Café, located at 233 W. Route 66. The announcer will be Jim Garvey and judges will be: Mike Williams, Forest Service supervisor for the Kaibab National Forest, Cindy Christman, clinic manager for the Williams Health Care Center and David Haines, owner of Gateway Cleaners.

The annual residential and business lighting contest will be held once again. Williams High School students will judge entries and the city of Williams and Arizona Public Service Co. will offer a $10 credit for residential customers who participate. The credit will be reflected on the January billings.

Applications for the lighting contest were mailed along with the November water bills. Applications can also be picked up at the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce, Williams Visitor Center, city hall and APS office.

Students at Williams Elementary School are available to decorate trees in businesses. Contact the Chamber of Commerce if you would like students to decorate a tree at your business.

Parents and children will also have the chance to visit with Santa Claus from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Williams Recreation Center.

Also following the parade will be a volley of fireworks put on by the city. The fireworks will be a portion of those the city elected not to shoot off for the Fourth of July celebration, due to extreme fire dangers. The display will be shot off above Monument Park, at the west end of Route 66.
