The Grand Canyon High School boys basketball team scrimmaged Northland Prep in Flagstaff on Saturday night.
Although scores are not kept during the game, Grand Canyon did have more points than the opponent, 60-22.
Tempy Walker and Miguel Davila each scored 18 points in the scrimmage. Travis Schmidt had nine points and 11 rebounds.
The two teams played fairly even in the first half with the Phantoms leading, 25-14. In the third quarter, Grand Canyon outscored Northland Prep, 25-6.
The Phantoms will open the season for real this coming Tuesday with a home game against Class 2A Williams. The boys game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
Grand Canyon then heads to the Williams tournament Thursday through Saturday. The Phantoms open the tournament with Pinon.
The Grand Canyon High School girls basketball team will open the season Tuesday at home against Williams.
Although some schedules may show a start time of 5 p.m., the game against Williams will actually start at 5:30 p.m.
The girls will also participate in the Williams tournament Thursday through Saturday with the opening game against Mogollon.
The Lady Phantoms did not have a preseason scrimmage.
Other home games for Grand Canyon in December include Dec. 13 against Fredonia and Dec. 19 against St. Michael. Both of those contests are 1A North Conference matchups.
The team will play road games before the holiday break at St. Michael on Dec. 14, Seligman on Dec. 20 and Joseph City on Dec. 21.
