The Phantoms came up big in the fourth quarter to knock off Seligman in the semifinals, 29-20. The two teams were tied 15-15 heading into the final period.

"It was a good tough game that went down to the wire," GCMS coach Matt Yost said. "Seligman started pressing because they were behind and we got a lot of our points on fast breaks."

The final basket for Grand Canyon was an alley-oop type shot from Garrison Yellowman to Mike Trenchard.

Emanuel Webb led the Phantoms with 14 points.

The victory advanced Grand Canyon into the championship game against Maine. After a close first quarter, the Phantoms began to pull away in the second period.

Grand Canyon led 25-14 after three quarters and Yost cleared the bench down the stretch.

"It was our first-ever championship in the A-team tournament," Yost said. "It was a great experience for the kids to come back with two first-place trophies. And the kids played classy."

The B team won the conference tournament on the previous day.

Webb led Grand Canyon in the championship game with 18 points.

Yost credited Webb and point guard Colin Hopkinson for their hard work this season. He also lauded the efforts of assistant coach Bill McCloskey and the cheer squad.

Webb finished second to a Parks player in the tourney’s three-point contest. Webb made 5-of-15 shots.

Grand Canyon finishes the season with an 8-2 record.
