Interim ranger bids friends,
town, forest farewell for now
Williams Ranger District Interim Ranger Chris Frisbee is eager to return to her family, but at the same time is sad to leave Williams.

“This is the perfect place. I was thrilled to get this work detail,” she said.

In Milwaukee, Wis., the Forest Service employed Frisbee as the Regional Non-Native Invasive Species Coordinator/Botany Program Leader for the Forest Service’s Eastern Region. The Eastern Region stretches from Maine to Minnesota, extending into Missouri across the mid-west to Illinois and includes New York, West Virginia and Rhode Island. She had been employed in that capacity for three years and will return to her former position.

Her 14-year career in the Forest Service has taken her not only to Wisconsin, but also to California, Kentucky, Arkansas, Idaho and Oregon twice. When she returns to Wisconsin, she will join her family including husband, Bob, and her two daughters, Emily, age nine, and Sara, age six.

While she was in Williams, her family came to visit. They immediately fell in love with the area.

“My husband saw the community as nice and sleepy, but he envisioned it as a community with a huge potential for growth in the near future,” she said.

During her time here, Frisbee said she enjoyed becoming connected with the people of Williams and those with whom she worked.

“This area is great. This is a dream place to work. This district is incredible,” she said.

Frisbee applied for the ranger position while serving as interim ranger. She was disappointed when she discovered someone else had been hired instead. The new hire — Steve Best — will be on the job Jan. 11. Frisbee became acquainted with Best after working with him in Arkansas and is happy for him.

“Steve (Best) will be a fun addition to the community,” Frisbee said.

While she is anxious to reside once again with her family, Frisbee is reluctant to return to Milwaukee, Wis. where there is heavy traffic and dark, cold, rainy days. She will miss the abundant sunshine of Williams. She is hoping to return to Williams in the future permanently.

“This district has the best mental health of any district I have ever worked on. They (employees) are friends and all work so well together,” Frisbee said.
