Softball meeting set tomorrow

The Grand Canyon community is looking to restructure the co-ed softball league. If you are a past participant or would like to play for the first time in this year’s league, you’re invited to an initial pre-season meeting at the Rec Center tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Please plan to be at the meeting or send a representative for your team. Topics for discussion will include length of season, rule enforcement and especially, umpires. The future of the league depends on your attendance.

For more information, contact the Rec Center at 638-3389.

Rec Center hosts volleyball

The Grand Canyon Rec Center hosts sand volleyball games on its new court on Thursdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. All community members are invited to come play.

The new court has regulation lines, a net and regulation volleyball and is available on a first-come, first-served basis during Rec Center hours. You must be a Center member to sign out equipment but anyone can play.

Youth baseball league starts up

Youngsters in grades kindergarten-six are invited to take part in tee-ball and coach pitch baseball. Games are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15-7 p.m. at the Grand Canyon School soccer field. Bring baseball glove, athletic shoes and water.

The cost is $10 per child. Parents are needed to help. The league is sponsored by Grand Canyon Youth Activities.

Valle-Wood FD hosting tourney

The Valle-Wood Volunteer Fire Department will host the second annual Valle-Wood fundraiser 18-hole open desert golf tournament on Saturday, June 5 at 9 a.m. at the Grand Canyon Golf Course.

The event also features prizes for men and women golfers. Raffle tickets are also available for $2 each or three for $5. Grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and soft drinks will be sold through the day.

All proceeds benefit the Valle-Wood Volunteer Fire Department. Because the department is not part of any fire district, it receives no county money and relies on fundraisers for support.

Entry fee is $25 in advance, $30 on the day of the tournament, and is tax deductible. Participants may play as many practice rounds as they wish to get used to the course.

The course is located on the High Sierra Ranch four and a half miles north of Valle on State Route 64. It features four par fives, eight par fours and four par threes. It has 10 doglegs, water hazards on 10 holes, mowed fairways and sand greens.

For reservations or more information, call Ted Iverson at 928-380-5414 or Pat at 928-635-9239.
