During the period of March 9-14, U.S. Park Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park responded to the following incidents:

Monday, March 9

• Rangers from Indian Garden responded to a report from above 3 Mile House of a 39-year-old man with a possible cardiac history who was suffering from exhaustion.

Tuesday, March 9

• A 71-year-old woman refused medical care after she suffered a ground-level fall and scraped her right knee.

• Obscene grafitti was painted on the Greenway path.

• A Grand Canyon woman and a woman from Franklin Park, N.J., were cited for speeding.

• A 12-year-old boy at Yavapai Lodge who was complaining of vomiting and a headache was transported to Grand Canyon Clinic

• An individual with a possible dislocated shoulder from a ground level fall was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center from the West Rim Interchange.

• A 58-year-old woman suffered minor abrasions after she tripped and fell on the gravel while walking in the dark from Yavapai Building 5 to Yavapai Lobby.

Wednesday, March 10

• A woman was cited for parking her vehicle in front of a “no parking” sign on the north side of El Tovar.

• A man was cited for for driving above the 25 mph speed limit in Pinon Park and was given a verbal warning for exceeding the 15 mph limit.

• A woman who was pulled over after failing to acknowledge two different stop signs was given a verbal warning for failing to obey a traffic control device and excessive speed. She was also asked to slow down in the school zones.

• Rangers received a report of a three-year-old child driving a white Buick Century while standing in his parental unit’s lap. The vehicle could not be located.

• A 28-year-old woman was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center after a sudden onset of vaginal bleeding and hyperglycemia. Medics ruled out spontaneous abortion.

• A motion alarm was triggered in Lane B of the South Entrance station.

• Orville Wadsworth, 32, of Grand Canyon, was arrested for driving under the influence after he crashed his vehicle into a stone wall at Hermit’s Rest. His breath alcohol count was over .08.

• A 49-year-old man was evacuated from the Phantom Delta pad, suffering from severe knee pain after hiking to Phantom the previous day with a large pack and a pre-existing arthritic condition. He was taken from the South Rim helibase to Grand Canyon Clinic.

Thursday, March 11

• Property that had been reported stolen was located and returned to its owner.

• Rangers took a report of a minor motor vehicle accident at the Market Plaza parking lot. There were no injuries.

• A juvenile was evacuated from Indian Garden with his mother after sustaining a serious knee laceration. They were transported to Grand Canyon Clinic.

Friday, March 12

• An Albuquerque, N.M., woman was cited for driving 52 mph in a 35 mph zone. An Orem, Utah, man was cited for driving 58 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• Rangers responded to a report of a woman complaining of abdominal cramping.

Saturday, March 13

• A Livonia, Miss., man was cited for driving 61 mph in a 35 mph zone near Pipe Creek Overlook.

• Barry Sullivan of Prescott, Ariz., was arrested for DUI after a vehicle backed into his while he was driving through the Hopi House parking lot. While rangers were investigating the accident, they noted that Sullivan had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and he performed poorly on subsequent field sobriety maneuvers. His son, John Sullivan, was arrested for public intoxication and possession of marijuana. Father and son were transported to Coconino County Jail.

• A 26-year-old man was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center to be admitted for depression.

• A Lawrence, Kansas, man was cited for speeding.

• Rangers reported large spring break day-hike crowds on the corridor trails. Through the day, they treated a number of minor medical cases and made hundreds of visitor contacts. Preventative search and rescue teams patrolled Bright Angel Trail, Phantom Ranch, Indian Garden and Cottonwood.

Sunday, March 14

• A 23-year-old woman at Yavapai Kitchen was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center after complaining of abdominal pain.

• Rangers responded to an alarm at Grand Canyon Clinic. Upon arrival, they found the door secured.

• An 84-year-old woman bumped her shin on a Paul Revere Transportation shuttle bus step, resulting in a full thickness laceration. The patient was bandaged and given directions to Flagstaff Medical Center. The patient transported herself there.

• Rangers responded to Bright Angel Lodge after a 10-year-old boy reported being attacked by a squirrel. No medical aid was needed and the squirrel could not be located.

• A 51-year-old man was given some snacks after complaining of chills, fever and light-headedness following a hike from Bright Angel Trailhead to Plateau Point. These improved his condition and he refused further treatment or transport to Flagstaff Medical Center.

• Joilita Wescogame was arrested near Maswik Lodge for an outstanding warrant out of Mesa City. Wescogame was contacted by rangers after they received a report of an intoxicated woman in the Maswik bar
