Editorial
Discover the why and how we do those things we do
A small paper is much different than a large newspaper. Our mantra is “local, local, local.” We do not feature national news unless it happens in the Williams area. National news stories are few and far between in a small community. We like it that way. Small is beautiful. Believe it and never wish it away.

Our door is always open to you just as the doors of your homes, offices and meeting rooms are open to us. Everybody has or is a story. Every story will lead to another story. It’s all connected. The “middle of nowhere” is the center of someone’s universe. It’s up to us to pay attention to your world. We do the best we can. If we’ve missed something, let us know. Never hesitate to contact us. Every story is important to us. Don’t be shy.

Because we produce such a small newspaper, it is not uncommon for us to be forced due to a lack of space to hold stories and photos for several weeks. Since every story is important, it is highly important to us to make sure your event or story is placed prominently in our paper. If you are feeling left out because you have waited several weeks for a story or photo to appear, please don’t feel as though your story or event is unimportant. The opposite is true. We’d rather run all of your photos than just one. We don’t want to run your story without your photo because we didn’t have space. That would not be right.

Our local historian, Jim Harvey, is proof of how a newspaper can be invaluable tool in preserving the history of an area. Jim submits a Williams history column every month. The columns are compiled from actual News files. Jim spends hours researching the archives to create his column. All of this is done on Jim’s own time and he is not monetarily compensated. The only compensation Jim receives is learning as much as he can about the history of Williams and sharing it with you.

We want to know how we are doing and celebrate at the same time. Everyone is invited to our open house tomorrow from 3-6 p.m. We are located at 118 S. Third St. Enjoy food prepared by our staff, see what we do and how we do it, tour the building and meet the staff. A suggestion box will be on the front counter. Tell us what you like and tell us what you don’t like. If you have any ideas on how we can serve you better, write them down. You do not have to sign your suggestions. Can’t make it here physically? E-mail your opinions to editorial@williamsnews.com or mail them to P.O. Box 667, Williams, AZ 86046. We will share your suggestions in next week’s paper in this spot. We can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
