From the editor’s keyboard
Policy changes while our level of concern does not
What is going to change is how we handle notices for those in need. From now on, we ask that you (or someone close to you) write a letter to the editor explaining your need. We want to know how you are doing and this is also the most effective vehicle in which to spread the word on your behalf. We are willing to run your notice one time on page five if you do not wish to write a letter to the editor. Don’t get me wrong; we do care about you, but running the same notice repeatedly is not news.

If you believe that running the notice weekly is more effective, you can do so by contacting our advertising director, Connie Hiemenz. For a small fee, Connie can guarantee that your notice will run as many times as you wish.

In fairness, we are running the needs briefs one last time. I am always open to hearing your suggestions. One loyal reader, Earl Bassett, came in recently with a wonderful idea for this page. An employee of the Williams-Forest Service Visitors’ Center, Earl has a large collection of letters written by visitors to the area who share their memories of Route 66. Earl will be submitting those letters on a regular basis and you will find them on page four, titled “I remember Route 66.”

Join us for an open house from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 7 at the News, 118 S. Third St. Tour our facility, see our equipment, enjoy refreshments created by the staff and offer your suggestions on what we can do better. A suggestion box will be located at the front counter. Your suggestions can be anonymous. Can’t attend? E-mail your comments to editorial@williamsnews.com. Your opinion is important. Keep those ideas coming!
