Power out Sunday from Valle to GC<br>
Grand Canyon’s Arizona Public Service (APS) representative Don Keil said he was called into action at about 12:15 p.m. when all went dark during services at his church.
Crews investigating the outage found a tripped circuit breaker at Howard Mesa just north of Williams.
“It had opened and wouldn’t close,” Keil said. “That indicates there is a problem with the line.”
By switching power to alternate lines, they were able to isolate the bad section to a 12-mile stretch between Tusayan and Red Butte. Valle residents saw their lights come back on around 1:30 p.m. but it took another hour and a half to locate the problem and fix it.
“We checked the line but found no visible problems,” said Keil. “We ended up at the Red Butte susbstation. We tested there and found the bad lighting arrester. It looked fine by the look of it. It was a fluke that we found it.”
Keil said that power was completely restored to points north of Valle by around 3:10 p.m.
