Photos needed for Memory Garden

The Williams Relay for Life planning committee continues to prepare for the July 23 Relay celebration.

Photos of loved ones for the Memory Garden are needed as soon as possible to assure they can be displayed. Photographs can be brought to the Williams-Grand Canyon News, 118 S. Third St. Please mark your photos accordingly so they can be returned.

The next Relay for Life meeting is April 27 at 7 p.m. at Rosa’s Cantina, 411 N. Grand Canyon Blvd.

Diabetes Support meets tomorrow

The Williams Diabetes Support Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Williams Senior Center, 850 W. Grant Ave.

Sue Sobolewski of Flagstaff Medical Center will discuss meal planning. The meeting is free and open to everyone.

Preschool screening May 13

The Williams Public Schools will be screening preschool children between the ages of three to five on May 13. The screening will be held at the Williams Elementary-Middle School from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

The purpose of the preschool screening is to identify children with special needs. The Williams Developmental Preschool program also enrolls typically developing three to five year old children without handicaps. Preschool enrollment for non-handicapped students is on a tuition fee basis. All students must be screened prior to being considered for enrolment in the district preschool program. Screening will take approximately 30-40 minutes.

Cleanup forest on May 20

The Kaibab National Forest will be hosting a forest cleanup day May 20, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. During the event, Forest Service employees and community volunteers will pick up trash in Oak Hill Snow Play Area, along old Route 66, near Forest Road 124 and in other locations where the need exists.

While the goal of this cleanup effort is primarily forest beautification, it is also being held in conjunction with the Forest Service Centennial.

Those interested in helping out should arrive at Buckskinner Park between 7:30-8 a.m. to receive bags and be assigned a work area. Participants should wear clothing appropriate for working outside and bring gloves and water. Work will continue until noon when there will be a barbecue lunch at Buckskinner Park for those who participated. The Williams Clean & Beautiful Committee will sponsor the lunch.
