Easter traditions

Two long-standing Easter traditions took place here over the weekend. On Saturday, the Grand Canyon Rotary hosted its annual Easter Egg Hunt. On Sunday, more than 1,000 people attended the annual sunrise Easter service at Mather Point. (See photo) Grand Canyon Community Church Pastor Ed Purkey consults with John Snow of John Snow Audio Services before the start of the service. Also assisting were Rudy Torres and Sharon Cann coordinating shuttle buses, Bob Baker who set up the power, Karen Purkey who coordinated greeters and ushers, Phil Mennenoh oversaw traffic control, Native American flutist and recording artist Scott August, Kaitlin Goodrich accompanied on piano and Eric Zeliff performed a solo. Readers were PingPing from Bangkok, Thailand, Lori Rommel from Grand Canyon and Bekky Schramm. Pastor Purkey officiated.
