Second hikers symposium set
The Second Grand Canyon Hikers Symposium will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Shrine of the Ages. It's free and open to the public.
The gathering's purpose is to share hiking, climbing and backpacking exploits and explorations in the Grand Canyon, as defined by the geographical region from Lees Ferry to the Grand Wash Cliffs and from rim to rim. The presentations will include day hikes, climbs and overnight backpacks on the corridor trails and surrounding area, historical trails such as the North and South Bass, Tanner, Grand View and any number of Grand Canyon routes.
GCA member weekend in Oct.
Grand Canyon Association hosts its Members' Gathering from Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 4-7. This four-day members-only event provides a behind-the-scenes look at some of the Canyon's treasures. GCA members will also have the opportunity to join interpretive talks and presentations and attend a luncheon at Shoshone Point.
Full gathering information, including event pricing and registration details, will be included in the summer edition of Canyon Views. There will be a charge of $10 per adult and $5 per children ages 7-17 to help cover administrative costs for the gathering. Event forms will be available at www.grandcanyon.org in mid-August. Flagstaff vet to visit GC Kennel
Dr. Fred Bush will be at Grand Canyon Kennels next Tuesday between 12:30-2 p.m.
Dr. Bush has provided veterinary care and services to the residents of Grand Canyon for 28 years.

Rec Center to host blood drive
The Rec Center will host a blood drive on Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Drop-ins are also welcome that day. Remember, you must have a photo ID in order to give blood. Also, eat a hearty, low-fat meal and remember to hydrate before donating.
