Speakers sought for hikers' symposium

Hikers are invited to submit presentations for the second Grand Canyon Hikers Symposium to be held here on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The Grand Canyon Hikers And Backpackers Association is sponsoring the free day-long event, which is designed to share hiking, climbing and backpacking exploits and explorations in the Grand Canyon defined as the geographical region from Lees Ferry to the Grand Wash Cliffs and from rim to rim.

Presentations may include a day hike, climb or overnight backpack on the corridor trails and surrounding area, historical trails such as the North and South Bass, Tanner, Grand View and any number of canyon routes. Only one hike per presentation, please.

Presenters will have 15 minutes to give their presentation, including any question and answer time. Presentations may be with slides and or Powerpoint, but Powerpoint is preferred, given the lighting in the Shrine.

Presenters may volunteer a written paper and or be videoed by GCHBA for possible posting to the Web and or to compile with other videos as a compendium of the event.

To be considered as a presenter, submit a 200 word maximum description, including the length of the hike, area visited and what time of year you took it. Send copies to both Tom Martin at tomhazel@grand-canyon.az.us and Doug Nering at doug@gloaming.com.

Submission deadline is Monday, April 30. Those chosen by the eight-member selection committee will be notifed by June 15.

Comments are not posted immediately. Submissions must adhere to our Use of Service Terms of Use agreement. Rambling or nonsensical comments may not be posted. Comment submissions may not exceed a 200 word limit, and in order for us to reasonably manage this feature we may limit excessive comment entries.
