The middle school Phantoms soccer team took second place in the I-40 tournament, beating Ash Fork 2-0 to advance to the winner's bracket, where they lost to Northland Prep 1-0.
In the first game, Jerman Valario scored with the assist by Luke Streit, and Joey Bankston scored with the assist by Molly Struble.
Though they were unable to score against NPA, Head Coach Ken Hunter said the Phantoms dominated the play.
"We had one breakdown and they got one goal, but we outplayed them," he said.
They ended the season playing at a higher level than even their coach expected, in part because of the momentum generated by Dustin Curley's first major goal, the winning point, scored during the Page tournament.
"It was a pretty important goal," Hunter said. "It was the turning point in how this team played. Three weeks ago, if you told me they would play like they did today, I wouldn't have thought so."
