The fledgling Arizona Basketball Coaches Association announced that Grand Canyon boys basketball coach Dan Lopez was chosen to be one of the 1A-3A North All-Stars coaches on June 14 at US Airways Center in Phoenix.
Lopez attended the All-Star selection meeting last Sunday at Central High School in Phoenix with the hope of getting senior center Bille Booth on the team. He was chosen as an alternate.
Each classification gets two players then the remaining top vote getters from an at-large list fills out the team.
Carter Connolly (Mogollon) and Enzo Clapper (Williams) are the two players representing 1A, Phoenix Christian's Alex Carnes, one of the leading scorers in the country, is the top 2A player and six-foot, eight-inch Oliver Lewinson from state runner-up Payson High School heads a strong list of 3A players.
Lopez said he is honored to be able to participate in this year's game.
"I think any time your peers recognize you, it has a lot more meaning at least for me," he said. "I have been very fortunate to be around great kids and Greg Walker has been not only a loyal assistant but a good friend. I am very excited."
