Relay for Life to meet

Members of the Williams Relay Life for Life committee will hold an organizational meeting March 26 at Rosa's Cantina beginning at 7 p.m.

Learn how to go green

The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce and Solar Terra, LLC will present the next "Good morning, Williams" 8-11 a.m. March 20 at the Mountain Side Inn, 642 E. Route 66.

Learn how going green is good for business and the environment. Speakers will include Thad Johnson, Debbie Hamby, Dennis Wells, Amanda Acheson and Megan Bloomer, in addition to more. Display tables featuring valuable information and resources will be available. A door prize will be given away.

Reservations are required. The cost is $10 for chamber members and $20 for non-members. Space is limited.

Celebrate spring break Friday at rec center

Celebrate spring break 3-8 p.m. at the Williams Rec Center, 300 W. Railroad Ave. during a Mix and Match Trophy Tournament. There is no cost to attend.

Sign up for fun 3-4 p.m. (parents are welcome). Enjoy lots of fun and a free barbecue, in addition to basketball, pool and air hockey tournaments.

A 3 on 3 basketball tournament will be offered for ages 11-14, 15-18 and 19-adult. A pool tournament will be available for those ages 10-11, 12-13, 14-16 and 17-adult. An air hockey tournament is offered for children 5-8 and 9-10. Trophies will be presented to those placing first, second and third in all tournaments.

This free event is sponsored by the city of Williams, promoting positive community events and programs.

Eat enchiladas, help Crabs

The Williams High School Slab Crabs Battle Bots team is offering an enchilada dinner 4-7 p.m. April 3 in the Williams High School culinary arts room.

The Slab Crabs - reigning state of Arizona champions in 2006, 2007 and 2008 - need money to travel to the national competition in Minnesota April 26-27. Come and see the trophies, engineering documents, videos of the competitions and talk to members of the Slab Crabs team.

The cost of dinner is $7 per plate. Each dinner comes with cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. Dinner can be eaten in the culinary arts room or can be packaged to go.

Library offers camera class

Did you get a new digital camera for Christmas but still don't know how to use it? Dennis Shirley will offer insight and advice on using digital cameras beginning at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Williams Public Library, 113 S. First St.

The class is free. Bring your camera with you to the lesson.

Author seeks photos of Williams history

Historic photographs are being sought for a local Williams history book. Family photographs of the early days of Williams, the Interstate 40 bypass of Route 66 in the 1880s, historic fires, Grand Canyon Hotel and the Fray Marcos Hotel, prohibition era, early 1900s and ski area are of special interest. Mention will be given the in book.

Hikes offered through the month of March

Kaibab National Forest archaeologists will lead interpretive hikes to the Keyhole Sink rock art site during March, which is Archaeology Month.

To participate, meet on Saturday March 29 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Hill Snow Play area on Route 66 between Parks and Pittman Valley. Attendees should wear warm clothing and boots, as the area will likely be snow-covered and muddy. The hike is about three-quarters of a mile each way (about 20 minutes in and 25 minutes out). All ages are welcome.

Adult basketball

Adult basketball will be held Wednesday night from 6-9 p.m. at the Williams-Elementary School gymnasium. The program is open to high school-aged youth and adults. The program is made possible through an intergovernmental agreement between the city of Williams and the Williams Unified School District.

Little League hosts tryouts March 29

Another season of Little League baseball and softball is about to begin. Tryouts for the season begin at 9 a.m. on March 29 at the Little League Field, weather permitting, for all baseball and softball majors division teams. If the weather is bad or the fields are wet, the tryouts will move to the high school gym. There will be no tryouts for the minor division.

Sign up will be offered on these days. The last day to register is March 29. The registration fee is $45. Parents should bring proof of age (birth certificate) and two documents showing proof of residence. These documents are required before children will be allowed to play.
