This holiday season, the North Kaibab Ranger District will issue over-the-counter Christmas tree-cutting tags starting Nov. 17, instead of participating in the vendor tag sales with the Williams and Tusayan ranger districts.
Tags will cost $15 with a limit of one tree per household. After Nov. 17, tags can be purchased Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the district office in Fredonia, or Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center, in Jacob Lake. The Fredonia office will also be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 28-29.
Customers may also mail in requests for Christmas tree tags. Mail requests should include the customer's name, $15 and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Requests sent to the Fredonia office should be addressed to: Office Manager, North Kaibab Ranger District, P.O. Box 248 or 430 S. Main St., Fredonia, AZ 86022.
Tree-cutting begins Nov. 17 and runs until Dec. 23. Customers will be provided a map that shows the designated areas authorized for Christmas tree cutting. Tree species available include blue and Engelmann spruce, Douglas and white fir, pinyon and ponderosa pine and juniper.
