Travel advisory in effect for northern Arizona

Caution urged through 6 a.m. tomorrow

The Department of Public safety has issued a winter travel advisory for northern Arizona through 6 a.m. tomorrow.

DPS officers have been very busy throughout the day in northern Arizona investigating several weather related collisions and slide-off's. Travelers should check or call 511 for the latest road and weather conditions.

In addition DPS would like to caution motorists traveling in northern Arizona to be aware of and prepared for snowy conditions and sub-freezing temperatures into the weekend. DPS strongly urges travelers not to pull over on the side of state highways to play in the snow.

Through this afternoon, the National Weather Service in Flagstaff is predicting snow showers with a 70 percent chance of precipitation. Southwest winds around 14 mph will remain. Forecasters are expecting less than one inch of snow accumulation this afternoon.

Snow showers will likely continue tonight, mainly before 11 p.m. The low temperature will dip to around 5 degrees. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.

Tomorrow, conditions are expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 35.
