Representatives from the park and Arizona Public Service gathered on Monday, May 11, for a ceremony to dedicate new photovoltaic solar panels donated by the power company. The system, will produce about 30 percent of the power used by the Visitor Center. It will also serve as an interpretive tool to inform visitors about alternative energy. "A great partnership was created when Grand Canyon National Park and APS came together for this project," said Grand Canyon National Park Superintendent Steve Martin at the ceremony. "This solar installation is a shining example of the park's commitment to protecting the environment through the use of renewable energy." And APS President and COO Don Robinson said, "This project is symbolic of the commitment we have at APS to environmental protection, sustainability and to make Arizona the solar capital of the world."
