County supervisors to visit Valle Sept. 28

County supervisors Carl Taylor and Matt Ryan will hold a neighborhood meeting in Valle Sept. 28. The meeting will be held at the Valle Airport, located at 555 S. Highway 64, beginning at 6 p.m. The public is invited to join Taylor and Ryan to hear about the many programs and services offered to county residents. Thoughts and concerns are also welcome during the neighborhood meeting.

Grand Canyon School hosts 'Board-Booster Barbecue'

Officials with the Grand Canyon Unified School District will host a "Board-Booster Barbecue" Saturday beginning at 11 p.m. A high school soccer exhibition will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The Lady Phantoms will also play the same day against Northland Prep. The game begins at 1 p.m. All community members are invited and encouraged to attend the free event.

Open gym basketball returns

Open gym basketball will be held each Sunday at the Grand Canyon School from 7-9 p.m. Individuals who wish to participate must be over 16-years-old and wear non-marking athletic shoes. For the program to continue, officials advise that all rules of the Grand Canyon Recreation Center and the Grand Canyon School be followed at all times.

Ping Pong Tournament Sept. 28

A double elimination Ping Pong tournament will be held at the Grand Canyon Community Recreation Center Sept. 28. The tournament will be held at 7 p.m. with a $2 entry fee. For more information on the winner take all tournament, call the rec center at (928) 638-3389.

Musical fun for the whole family

All children are musical! Music Together® classes are tons of fun and can help your child develop to his/her full musical potential. Children age birth through five and their parents/caregivers experience songs, instrument play, and movement activities in a relaxed, playful setting with no performance pressure. Participants also receive a songbook, parent guide booklet, semi-annual newsletter, and two professionally recorded CDs for more family fun at home.

Fall semester classes run for eight weeks, Sept. 17 through Nov. 5. Each semester features a new collection of songs and activities. This fall we will jam to the Fiddle Collection.

Registration for the fall semester is now in progress. Save money by registering early. Scholarships are available for those who can't afford tuition. Want to see what a class is like? Yoga classes and more at Grand Canyon Rec Center

The Grand Canyon Rec Center offers a number of great activities for residents of the Grand Canyon and Tusayan, including Yoga classes and more. Tuesday night flow classes are offered from 5:45-7 p.m. and cost anywhere from $10 for a drop in class to $50 for an eight class package. Beginning Yoga with Jennifer is offered Wednesdays from 5:45-7 p.m. A night class is offered for donations on Sundays beginning at 5 p.m. A kids' Yoga workshop is offered on select Fridays. Contact the rec center for more details. Other rec center classes include free Falun Dance classes each Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m., Zumba from 6-7 p.m., line dancing beginning at 6 p.m. and tap dance and ballet. Movies at the rec center

Free lemonade and popcorn are offered during the Grand Canyon Recreation Center's movie times. On Friday, the rec center will screen "X-Men Origins Wolverine" (PG-13) beginning at 7 p.m. The rec center will also host a Saturday matinee with "The Sea Inside" Sept. 19. Matinees begin at 2 p.m. For more information call the rec center at (928) 638-3389.

KLC Looking for board members

Now is an exciting time to join the board of directors for Kaibab Learning Center (KLC), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The center has received a Quality First Grant from First things First and will allow the center to begin the strategic planning process to determine what KLC will look like five years from now. Grand Canyon High School Booster Club membership drive

Would you like to help support our high school athletes? The Grand Canyon High School Booster Club is looking for new members to help raise funds for scholarships and other student athletic program needs. New members are welcome even if they do not have a student in our school. Do you miss your high school athletic days? Many support Grand Canyon students by regularly attending the high school games and are invited to become a Booster Club member. There will be an organizational meeting in the near future, according to members.

Opening for assistant coach

Traditional Japanese Sword Class

Falling Leaf Dojo will offer a traditional Japanese Sword class on Thursdays at the Grand Canyon. Learn discipline of the mind and body while wielding the Samurai Katana of the Japanese warrior class. Classes meet from 7-8 p.m. at the rec center for ages 16-years and older. Register for 9-1-1

The 9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatch Center urges residents in the Grand Canyon area to register their telephone numbers and addresses. Registered information is confidential and will only be used to pinpoint a 9-1-1 call in the event the caller is unable to speak. The 9-1-1 system currently leaves out crucial information for dispatchers in the event of an emergency, such as medical information and addresses. New residents, or those who are changing addresses, are encourage to call the 9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatch Center at (928) 638-7805.
