There are always moments when it would be nice to have a camera handy. Times when the perfect photo opportunity presents itself, such as a graduation, a special birthday, or when a giant elk crosses onto the center of Highway 64 in the heart of Tusayan, stopping traffic as it makes its way through the heart of the newly incorporated South Rim community (and presenting a perfect photo opportunity). Many record those moments with their digital cameras, as they do other moments in their lives. Community newspapers, however, cannot always be there to capture that photo for history's sake. Whether big or small, a newspaper relies on those who share what they've captured. And at the Grand Canyon, photo opportunities are as abundant as the the vistas themselves. One person's story can reach an entire community, and beyond, by utlizing the local newspaper.
It has never been easier to capture those moments for posterity. Thanks to camera phones, digital cameras, shrinking video cameras and laptops that grow smaller and smaller with each passing year, documenting events in your own backyard has never been easier. Facebook, e-mail and other forms of multimedia make sharing important events that much easier.
Community newspapers, such as the Grand Canyon News, rely on the support of the area in which they cover. Many of the stories featured in the news result from community involvement, news tips, and submitted material. Much of what is featured within the pages of a community newspaper is made up of stories, photos and tips submitted by readers.
Submissions of any kind are welcome at the Grand Canyon News. Whether celebrating a wedding, a birth, or a special event, send your submissions to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
