Editorial: Lots of graduation excitement going on

It's the time of year that many young people look forward to, when they trade in their school books for sunglasses, or at least for a little extra sleep in the mornings. Summer break is something nearly everyone looks forward to, as it's a time for vacations, earning extra pocket money, or working on that tan. For some, it's also a time for transition, as those graduating from high school can attest.

Eleven seniors will graduate from Grand Canyon High School this year. Those 11 individuals will move on to do a lot of things following their graduation, including college, jobs and other endeavors. The News would like to congratulate Miriam Bankston, Stephanie Begay, Daniel Celis, Keslee Foster, Veronica Garcia, Cuco Jaime, Tiffany Kerr, Tasha Ray, Monique Streit, Marissa Timeche and Erik Vessey on a job well done. Congratulations also to eighth graders Joey Bankston, Chance Pace, Carleen Begay, Ethan Berry, Hunter Bowen, Marta Del Villar, Jimmy Hoblin, Israel Ibarra, Yoana Ibarra, Justin Jarrell, Tateyonna Jeter, Ethan Jones, Kyrah Kaska, Nicolas Legaspi, Julisa Marquez, Blyth McBroom-Sweeney, Cheyenne McNerney, Annabelle Morin, Alexis Shirley, Shania Smith, Zach Tacey, Shanaya Upshaw, Jessica Van Ingwagen and Hailey Weinstein.

The hard work of the 2010 senior class will culminate in a graduation ceremony Friday at the El Tovar. The graduation ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. The event, which will kick off a long Memorial Day weekend, is sure to be a memorable one for students.

Graduation festivities will be occurring throughout northern Arizona this weekend, as students in Williams will gather their diplomas as well. Grad ceremonies there will begin at 7 p.m. this Friday. The ceremony will be held at Williams High School with over 50 seniors graduating.
