Palma Wilson to retire from Park Service
Open house celebrating service to be held Dec. 20 at Shrine of Ages
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Palma Wilson, Deputy Superintendent of Park Operations at Grand Canyon National Park is retiring after 34 years of service with the National Park Service - four and a half of those years were at Grand Canyon.
Palma began her career with the National Park Service at Assateague Island National Seashore in Virginia and Maryland as a Student Conservation Association (SCA) volunteer. She also worked as a seasonal interpretive ranger at Assateague Island National Seashore, at Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in Missouri, and at Fire Island National Seashore in New York.
Palma also served as a park ranger at Ozark National Scenic Riverways in Missouri, a park ranger and chief of interpretation and visitor services at Harry S Truman National Historic Site in Missouri, and chief of interpretation and resource management at Scotts Bluff and Agate Fossil Beds National Monuments in Nebraska.
From 1994-1998, Palma served as the superintendent at Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota. She was also superintendent of Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments (1998-2001), superintendent of Colorado National Monument (2001-2004), and superintendent of Flagstaff Area Monuments (2004-2007). In 2006, she also served as associate to the deputy director, National Park Service Operations, as a Randy Jones Leadership Fellow.
Please join us at an open house for Palma on Tuesday, Dec. 20 from 1-3 p.m. at the Shrine of the Ages multi-purpose room to help celebrate her long and successful career with the National Park Service and to wish her well as she transitions from the Service to a life of pleasure on the Eastern Seaboard.
