TUSAYAN, Ariz. - Since 1981, We Cook Pizza and Pasta has been serving up hot and delicious food for tourists and locals alike.

The original name, We Cook Pizza and Pasta, stems from owners Wayne and Margie Cook, who creatively incorporated their name into the business title.

Brian and Verna Ciesielski run the restaurant for the Cooks, and began work there in 1995.

According to Brian Ciesielski, one of the perks of managing a restaurant such as We Cook Pizza is the variety of people they meet on a daily basis.

"We meet people from all walks of life," Ciesielski said. "A lot of international visitors come to visit us, especially Europeans and Italians."

All the food We Cook Pizza serves is made fresh, nothing is frozen or from the can, which comes in handy when faced with skeptical customers from out of town.

"It is interesting when an Italian family comes in to try our food given the country's reputation when it comes to pizza," Ciesielski said. "Usually they clean their plates before they leave."

Still, they sometimes comment on how different the food is here as opposed to in their native country.

"I think we tend to use a little more garlic than they do," he laughed.

Even though they see many tourists come and go, local residents remain their top priority. They offer a 20 percent discount for locals who present proof of residence.

"We do get a lot of locals come in here, so we have a little card that shows them as locals and gets them the discount," Ciesielski said. "Also, if they buy nine pizzas they get the 10th pizza free."

Not only do they serve pizza considered by many to be a favorite in town, they also boast hot wings that are so good, they have developed a hot wing pizza spin off.

"We have great food served fast," Ciesielski said. "It is a family atmosphere, and we can get pizza through the oven in as little as seven minutes."

The Ciesielski's are proud of how good their food is, and have the support of their customers to back it up.

"We have some people who have actually come from Texas to eat here, that says a lot." Ciesielski said. "We pride ourselves on having really good food and hopefully people are so pleased with experience they come back."

We Cook Pizza and Pasta is open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 9 or 10 p.m. depending on the season.
