GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - The Grand Canyon Phantoms posted two wins last week, moving into the second place spot in the conference behind Colorado City.

The Phantoms tied their season high score against Shonto Prep Jan. 11 with a 74-39 win.

Larrin Talas led the Phantoms with 17 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and three assists. Andrew Araiza followed with 14 points and four rebounds and Ricky Saavadra scored 13 points with six steals and three assists.

On Jan. 15 the Phantoms took on Seligman in what Head Coach Silas Aiken said was his team's best game of the season.

"It was probably our best overall effort of the season so far," he said. "We had a 46 point first half and only 12 turnovers for the game, both season bests."

Talas scored 14 points with six rebounds and four steals, breaking the single season school record for steals in the process. With 65 steals, Talas is now two steals above the previous record of 63.

"I'm so proud of Larrin because he has really turned the corner in that he is becoming a leader," Aiken said. "He has grown up and has become a man this year."

Jared Ruyle led the Phantoms with 18 points, four rebounds and four steals. Freshman Ethan Berry had his best game of the season with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

The Phantoms have won their last three games and 10 of their last 12 games. They are now 12-6 overall (5-1 in conference).

The Phantoms take on Northland Prep in Flagstaff Thursday. They play Ash Fork at home Friday and Tuba City at home Saturday.
