Arts for Our Park opening an energetic evening
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - The crowd that attended the opening of the Arts for Our Park juried student exhibit at Kolb Studio March 9 was abuzz with excitement. Likely because many of the artists were seeing their work hung in a gallery space for the first time.
Helen Ranney, Grand Canyon Association director of outreach and public relations, said the student artists' enthusiasm was tangible.
"The energy in the room increased as the kids started streaming into the gallery," she said.
The exhibit, now in its eighth year, runs through April 17 and features art created by Grand Canyon school and Leupp Schools, Inc. students.
Ranney said the maturity of the work created by the areas young artists was impressive to many in attendance.
"Amery Bohling, an artist who has participated in the Celebration of Art event previously, came to the opening reception (she's painting with Artist-in-Residence Will Tapia for a few days) and was very impressed with the talented children in our community. We both discussed how the artwork on the walls was amazing and we expected great things from these young artists in the future. Maybe one day we will see their artwork hanging in a museum or gallery elsewhere."
