Canyon runner Trevor Johannsen wins 7th Annual Sedona Half-Marathon

SEDONA, Ariz. - More than 2000 runners raced through the beautiful red rocks of Sedona Feb. 4 for the 7th Annual Sedona Marathon. Runner Brian Tinder of Flagstaff took an early lead and finished the marathon in first place with a time of 2:54:04. Hank Risley of Cedar Springs Michigan took second with a time of 2:58:40 and Gary Krugger also of Flagstaff took third with a time of 3:12:03.

In the half-marathon men's division, runners from northern Arizona dominated. In the men's division the overall winner was Trevor Johannsen from Grand Canyon with a time of 1:21:36, closely followed by Chino Valley Runner J.P. Jackson with a time of 1:24:41. The third place finisher was Dominic Tosi of Flagstaff with a time of 1:25.20.

In the marathon women's division, Lara Schick from Kutztown, Penn. took first with a time of 3:23:42 and current Sedona Marathon women's division course record holder Sherry Christoff of Sedona took second running 3:29:17. Lindsay Plas of Cottonwood came in third with a time of 3:42:21.

In the half-marathon women's division, Randi Simon of Prescott Valley came in a full five minutes in front of her closest competitor with a time of 1:26:51. Simon is a returning runner and was the overall woman's division winner of the inaugural Sedona Marathon in 2006. She was followed by Kathleen Pryor of Phoenix who had a time of 1:32:21 and Megan Vermaas of Lincoln, Neb. whose time was 1:33:47.

The Seventh Annual Sedona Marathon was produced by the Sedona Chamber of Commerce.
