Unwind in Tusayan
Art, recreation and the great outdoors minutes from the Grand Canyon
After a day spent taking in the great expanse of the Grand Canyon, Tusayan offers visitors a wide variety of venues for music, entertainment and dining.
Recently completed sidewalks and improved lighting make exploring after dark more accessible, especially for elderly travelers. Tusayan is fun, relaxing, walk-able and safe.
Explore beyond the Canyon's Rim without leaving Tusayan by visiting the National Geographic® Visitor Center. The Grand Canyon - The Hidden Secrets in IMAX is shown hourly in eight languages. Enrich your Grand Canyon experience in less than an hour. The 35-minute movie shows hourly and penetrates the innermost depths of Grand Canyon.
Also at IMAX, visitors can stand on the edge of a virtual Grand Canyon thanks to artist Kurt Wenner. Wenner has created a new work of his world famous 3D pavement art this summer at the Visitor Center. Wenner combines traditional street painting techniques with his classical training in Renaissance classicism, to invent an art form all his own, that has come to be known as anamorphic or 3D pavement art.
Tusayan is also home to the Tusayan Ranger District, which is on the northern portion of the Coconino Plateau. It is bordered on the north by Grand Canyon National Park, on the east by the Navajo Indian Reservation, on the south by private and state lands, and on the west by the Havasupai Indian Reservation.
The total area of the Tusayan Ranger District is about 360,000 acres. It lies completely within the watershed of the Colorado River. Elevations range from 5,700 feet in the northeast portion of the Upper Basin to 7,500 feet at Lockett Lake.
The topography of the district is, for the most part, gentle. The exceptions are several steep, intermittent drainages, the Coconino Rim and Red Butte. Along the Coconino Rim, slopes drop abruptly into the Upper Basin. Red Butte reaches an elevation of 7,324 feet.
Visit the Tusayan Ranger District, 176 Lincoln Log Loop, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Maps of Kaibab National Forest are available for purchase. Visit with the friendly staff to learn more about bicycling, hiking, fishing and camping opportunities.
After a busy, fun-filled day of hiking and sightseeing, decompress by visiting the Best Western Premier Grand Canyon Squire Inn in Tusayan. There you will find something for everyone in the family. Unwind in the fun-filled bowling center, play billiards and arcade games or enjoy a drink and a game in the sports bar. Close your eyes, make a wish and toss a penny into the fountain located outside the Coronado Room after enjoying your fine dining experience.
