GC Community Library seeks volunteer

Librarian Mindy Karlsberger is looking for a volunteer to coordinate the Summer Reading Program. More information is available by contacting the library at (928) 638-2718.

Personal trainer available

Personal trainer Terri Attridge is providing personal training at the Grand Canyon Rec Center once a week. Interested parties may email tattridge@gmail.com for further details.

Coed volleyball and open gym basketball

Every Sunday, participants can play coed volleyball from 5 to 7 p.m. and open gym basketball from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Grand Canyon School gym. Participants must wear clean shoes for the free event.

Odyssey of the Mind "fun-raiser" this Friday

This Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., Grand Canyon School (GCS) Odyssey of the Mind teams will perform their problems for the community at the school as a fundraiser and "fun-raiser" in the GCS multi-purpose room. Odyssey of the Mind volunteers will also dish up a chili verde dinner and sell baked goods.

The event also features fun activities in which to take part.

Grand Canyon hiking club

Residents can get active and along the way earn a 100 mile commemorative T-shirt. The first 20 members will also receive an additional T-shirt at sign up. Registration is available at the Rec Center. Annual membership is $10. Membership guidelines are available at www.GrandCanyonRec.org. Membership at the Rec Center is not required to enter.

Pool tournament today

Participants can test their billiards skills and luck against others in the Grand Canyon/Tusayan community. Sign up starts at 6:45 p.m. today in the Rec Center lobby. The double elimination tournament will start at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $3 per person and covers table use and cash prizes.

Friday night flix

This week's featured movie is "Lincoln," which is rated PG-13 and stars Daniel Day-Louis and Sally Field. The free movie starts at 7 p.m. April 19 in the Rec Center's multipurpose room. Free lemonade and popcorn will be available to the viewing audience.

Flagstaff shopping trip

Shopping destinations may include Wal-Mart, Harkins 11 Theatre Complex, Target, Ross, Family Dollar, Safeway, downtown Flagstaff and the Flagstaff Mall. Those interested should meet in the Rec Center lobby at 7:45 a.m. April 20. The trip fee is $15 per person and covers transportation only. Participants should bring a watch, ID and spending money. Van space is limited and participants are encouraged pay in advance to reserve a seat.

Karaoke planet

Music starts at 6 p.m. in the Rec Center's multipurpose room April 20. The event is free.

Grand Canyon employee T-shirt contest

Residents can show their creativity in this contest. The first 10 entries will receive a free one-month membership at the Rec Center. The top prize is a one-year membership at the Rec Center. Contest rules are available at www.GrandCanyonRec.org. Membership at the Rec Center is not required to enter.

Rec Center photography contest

Residents are encouraged to share their pictures of Rec Center events and activities in this contest. The deadline is midnight on May 31. The top prize is a free trip for two to Las Vegas.
