Lees Ferry road construction starts March 11, ends September

PAGE, Ariz. - Glen Canyon National Recreation Area officials plan to begin construction on the Lees Ferry entry road March 11 with a tentative completion date of Sept. 6.

The $6.5 million Federal Highways Administration project will replace all surfacing and improve drainage along the 5.75 miles of roadway from Highway 89A to the parking and launch ramp area at the Colorado River. The project will improve safety, improve road drainage, reduce erosion and stabilize the banks near the Paria River Bridge and along the Paria River west shore.

Flaggers will control single lane traffic throughout the duration of the project. Work will occur Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with delays as long as 30 minutes. Services within the Lees Ferry area will be accessible throughout construction. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area officials will post updates on the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area website at www.nps.gov/glca.
