Road work to temporarily close portion of Cape Royal Road

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Grand Canyon National Park has started improvements to Cape Royal Road on the North Rim. Beginning Sept. 3, Cape Royal Road from Roosevelt Point to Cape Royal Point, at approximately mile 11.5, will be repaved. However, visitors to the North Rim will still be able to drive Cape Royal Road to Roosevelt Point.

Other work along the stretch of Cape Royal Road includes sidewalk replacement at Walhalla Pullout, parking lot enhancements at the Cape Royal Parking area and repaving the Cape Royal Trail and Overlook.

Work along this portion of Cape Royal road has already begun and includes improvements to culverts, headwalls, guardrails and pullouts. During this time, traffic delays may happen, and drivers should be alert for workers on the road and possible traffic pattern changes. Visitors will still be able to drive on Point Imperial Scenic Road.

The Park Service has scheduled all road improvements to be done by the end of the season.

Up-to-date information on the road improvement project at the North Rim is available on www.nps.gov/grca/parkmgmt/const.htm.
