Tusayan Fire welcomes new employee
Chrystal Schoppmann comes to Tusayan from Page, in charge of administrative duties for the station
TUSAYAN, Ariz. - Tusayan Fire Department has hired an administrative assistant to help with the small station's daily office work.
The move comes after Tusayan Town Council agreed to help pay for the position last June.
Chrystal Schoppmann started the job a couple weeks ago, and has already lightened the administrative load for Fire Chief Robbie Evans and Assistant Fire Chief Lora Pitsinger.
"I'm here to take some of the pressure off of them so they can go back to being EMTs and fire fighters," Schoppmann said. "I'm going to help Lora with payroll, answering the phones, updating websites and standard operating procedures."
Born and raised in Page, Schoppmann and her husband have lived in Tusayan for a year. Before moving, Schoppmann was human resource director for Antelope Point Marina in Page. Even though her license isn't current, Schoppmann was also an Arizona insurance agent and has a background in medical coding, billing and insurance. Schoppmann said she's excited to get more involved with the community through her new position.
"We're very familiar with the area," Schoppmann said. "We'd go hunting in this area a lot. I also have an uncle who lives here. My husband and I, always being hunters, have always wanted to move to the mountains."
Evans said the department is relieved to have Schoppmann on board and in the coming months, they hope to organize CPR and fire extinguisher courses for the local community.
