Albright Training Center commemorates Kowski's legacy
GRAND CANYON, Ariz.-Thomas Seidenkrantz gathered with family members and friends at Albright Training Center May 21 to commemorate Grand Canyon notable Lois Kowski, as part of a day remembering and celebrating her 98-year life.
Seidenkrantz, who is Kowski's grandson, was surprised to receive an unusual gift from Albright staff, a photo found in the center's archives, of his grandmother with National Park Service Director Russell E. Dickenson. The photo captures the main training building dedication in honor of her husband, and first Center Superintendent, Frank Kowski.
Seidenkrantz not only has auspicious grandparents, but is the son of National Park Service retired Superintendent Albert Seidenkrantz. Albert met his future wife, the Kowski's daughter, while attending ranger skills training at Albright in 1965.
Seated at the spot where the photo was taken, Seidenkrantz was pleased to see Kowski's legacy as well as her husband's, preserved.
While the family didn't recognize this photo, they all recognized the prized heirloom clock Kowski is holding in it - a gift from Dickenson from the dedication ceremony.
Kowski was laid to rest next to her husband in a private ceremony at Grand Canyon Cemetery earlier in the day.
