Two Grand Canyon School Board seats up for election
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Risha VanderWey, Coconino County Superintendent of Schools, is pleased to announce two open board positions on Grand Canyon Unified School Board (GCUSD) in the Nov. 4 election. The seats are both 4-year terms.
Grand Canyon has two appointees with seats on the board, which expire on Dec. 31. Brian Donehoo and SuZan Pearce currently serve in those seats.
Any registered voter in the state of Arizona who has been a resident of the school district for one year, immediately preceding the day of election, is eligible to run for these positions.
Coconino County Superintendent of Schools reminds those wishing to apply that an effective board member focuses his/her efforts on serving all children. School board members should make sure every decision or action of the board considers the best interests of all the students they serve. They understand that board members are entrusted by all of the parents in the community and that no child is more important than another. Board members work to improve schools by building public understanding, trust, support and participation. An effective board member acts with professionalism and integrity as a member of a team.
Interested parties are encouraged to consider this important volunteer office as a true service to your community and its children.
Those interested in running for this office, can contact the Coconino County Superintendent of Schools located in the Ponderosa High School building, 2384 N. Steves Blvd., Flagstaff, AZ 86004 or by calling (928) 679-8070. Nomination packets can be picked up from this office, the GCUSD district office or can be mailed on request.
To be nominated for the position, a minimum of five signatures must appear on your petition forms as well as filing a nomination paper with the Coconino County Superintendent of Schools on, but not before, July 7 and not after 5 p.m. on August 6.
