Restrooms at Sport's Complex one step closer
TUSAYAN, Ariz. - Restroom facilities at the Sport's Complex center in Tusayan are getting closer to completion after an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for easements to the restrooms were reached between the town of Tusayan and Grand Canyon School.
Eric Duthie, interim town manager and Tusayan Vice Mayor Craig Sanderson attended a school board meeting to present the IGA to school board members.
"The amended IGA for the facilities has been presented, it was discussed at the school district's board meeting recently," Duthie said. "After some discussion of some details, along with discussion between the council for both the town and the school district, it was approved and recommended for approval by the council so that we can move forward with the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) project."
With the IGA completed, the project is able to advance to the next step.
"I know that it has taken a long time to get to this point and there is great concern that we are behind schedule," Duthie said. "With the easements being obtained from the school and with the agreement with the sanitary district, we are moving forward."
According to Duthie the bid for the pre-fabricated restroom building for the complex was put out to bid on July 27.
"There is already interest that has been expressed, the word is out there," Duthie said. "The closing bid on that will be August 10."
The bid for piping and groundwork for the restroom facility will be made available after the bid for the building has been accepted. An estimated date for the completion of the piping and ground work bid is October 1.
"The anticipation is that the project could come in a bit early," Duthie said. "Again the target is to make sure it is completed by December 31. The critical issues were figuring out the easements and making a decision on if it was going to be vault and haul or pipe. I'm grateful for council and parties that were involved with it - the school district, the sanitary district and private ownership that moved forward in it. (It) looks like we're on a good schedule and barring something terrible happening, it looks like we will be able to move forward and meet the deadline."
The town's next council meeting will be August 5 at 6 p.m. at the town hall.
