GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - The Grand Canyon Association (GCA) and Arizona Public Service (APS) were pleased to announce the opening of the 8th Annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art at Grand Canyon National Park. This event featured twenty-four artists from around the country who painted en plein air from Sept, 12-19.

During the event week, artists painted at various locations at Grand Canyon National Park, including the North Rim, South Rim, Phantom Ranch and Indian Garden. The week-long activities culminated on Saturday morning with a "Quick Draw" event, at which artists first painted along the South Rim for two hours, then brought their paintings at noon to be auctioned off at Bright Angel Trailhead. The Celebration of Art exhibit at Kolb studio opened to the public on Sunday, Sept, 20 with an address from Grand Canyon National Park Superintendent Dave Uberuaga and GCA Executive Director Susan Schroeder.

Artist Awards were announced as follows:

James McGrew, Lake Oswego, OR - People's Choice Award

Cody DeLong, Cottonwood, AZ - Artist's Choice Award

John D. Cogan, Farmington. NM - Best in Show Award, presented by Plein Air Magazine

The exhibit and sale will be open through Jan. 18, 2016, at Kolb Studio, Grand Canyon National Park. Proceeds from this event will support the goal of funding an art venue at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
