GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - A power outage at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of Grand Canyon Jan. 23 caused a temporary closure at the ranch. It is anticipated that Phantom Ranch will re-open to guests once power is restored and all health and safety checks are completed.

Arizona Public Service (APS) is working to locate the fault in the line and restore power.

the ranch, Xanterra South Rim LLC, the concessionaire operating the ranch, closed operations to guests at Jan. 24. Xanterra is notifying guests with upcoming reservations and assisting them in making alternative arrangements. Inquiries about existing reservation at Phantom Ranch can be made to Xanterra at (928) 638-3283.

Bright Angel Campground, operated by the National Park Service, remains open at this time to hikers with a valid permit. All thru-hikers and overnight guests at the campground should be prepared to carry and/or treat all drinking water. Hikers should also be prepared to carry food as the Phantom Ranch Cantina is closed.
