A young local man was killed in a motorcycle crash Aug. 29 in Williams. Jonathan McMahon, 18, from Williams was killed when his motorcycle crashed into the back of a passenger van near 1733 W. Route 66 around 7:24 a.m. Tuesday, Williams Police Department said in a statement. Williams Police Department responded to the location for a report of a two-vehicle collision. According to witnesses, a blue motorcycle was driving westbound at a high rate of speed and collided with the rear of a passenger van that was slowing down to make a left-hand turn into a private drive, police said. The driver of the van told police he did not see the motorcycle and only heard it when it struck the back of the van. The driver of the van was uninjured, and showed no signs of impairment, police said. LifeLine Ambulance and Native Air Rescue responded to the accident and treated the driver of the motorcycle who had received severe head trauma. The driver was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center via Native Air, where he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Police said the driver of the motorcycle was wearing a DOT-approved helmet. The case is still under investigation.
