Lorene Pettit

Lorene Pettit, 92, longtime Williams resident, died June 29, 2001 at Flagstaff Medical Center. She was born Nov. 11, 1908 in Parks, Ark., the daughter of Jim and Fannie Jameson.

Mrs. Pettit and her husband, Ben, brought their family to Arizona in 1953. Ben worked in construction and made a big impact on the development of Williams and the surrounding area. Mrs. Pettit worked and cared for many as a loving mother caring for her children, then her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, her parents, five sisters and two brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Daphine Hollemon of Waldron, Ark.; two sons, Jim Pettit and Bill Pettit of Williams; six sisters, Vida Hoffman of Parks, Ark., Victoria Porter and Joanna Rhyme, both of Waldron, Ark., Kathleen Morrison, Katherene Murray and Edna Watson, all of San Diego; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 2 at First Baptist Church, with interment following in Williams Cemetery.

Alice Slamon Glover

Alice Slamon Glover, an Ash Fork native and longtime resident, died on June 23, 2001 after a debilitating illness. Mrs. Glover, 79, was born Nov. 10, 1921.

She attended Ash Fork schools before college and graduate school at Northern Arizona University. Mrs. Glover taught history, political science, Spanish and physical education at Ash Fork High School for 30 years.

She was a member of the National Education Association, Delta Psi Kappa, Alpha Delta Kappa and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is often remembered by her former students as a caring and helpful teacher who tried to find the good in everyone she came in contact with.

Mrs. Glover was preceded in death by her parents John “Jack” and Metha Slamon. Survivors include her husband, Robert “Bob” Glover; a son, John Glover and grandchildren, Michael and Christina Glover. Her family will gather privately in memory of her life.
