Native Grand Canyon resident David Lopez, 53, passed away on Saturday Oct. 25, 2008 after a long bout with lung and throat cancer.
David spent his entire life at the Canyon graduating from Grand Canyon High School in 1973. He worked part-time for the National Park Service on the trail crew and spent the last 14 years working with the water department specializing in water line repair in the Canyon itself, until his illness forced an early retirement.
David was a caring and loving person who enjoyed hunting and cooking exotic wild game. He was a tremendous brother, a loving son and caring uncle. David will be missed by all of those who knew him.
He is survived by his mother Josie Lopez of Seligman; sisters Margaret Alvarado of Seligman and Mari Celseste of Las Vegas; and brother Dan Lopez, a current resident of Grand Canyon.
A Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 at El Cristo Rey Catholic Church. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at the Community Building.
